Freeman Joins Staff For 2022Strasburg, VA – After an extensive search, head coach George Laase and the Strasburg Express are pleased to announce that Nolan Freeman will be joining the coaching staff for next summer. Freeman will assume all pitching coach duties. A native of North Ridgeville (OH), Freeman competed collegiately at perennial NCAA DII powerhouse Mercyhurst University. While there, he was a member of two squads that advanced to the NCAA DII College World Series. Freeman left with the 2nd most wins (as a pitcher) in school history and as a member of the winningest class in school history. Freeman also experienced collegiate summer ball while at Mercyhurst, competing for the Utica Blue Sox in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League for two summers. Upon graduation, Freeman joined back up with Utica as he became their pitching coach for three consecutive seasons. Having moved down to Georgia, Freeman also coached with the prestigious East Cobb Astros travel organization for two years. He currently serves as volunteer assistant coach for Salem University in Salem, West Virginia. Freeman echoed the excited in his comments regarding joining the staff. “I am beyond blessed and excited to join the Strasburg Express family and organization. Thank you to George Laase, Parker Neal, and the entire Express organization for giving me the opportunity to coach this extremely talented roster from all around the country.” Express General Manager Parker Neal had this to say regarding Freeman. “George and I were overwhelmed with the number of applications we received when we initially posted our job on the ABCA website. We spoke with numerous individuals and Nolan stood out to us as someone who fits seamlessly with our current coaching staff (George, Collin, and Christian) as well as with our organization. He is highly respected in our region, has managed the day-to-day activities of a predominantly NCAA DI pitching staff in the PGCBL, and his philosophies on arm care and staff management aligned with our existing principles. We also believe he is a tremendous ‘people person’ which is important as he builds relationships and trust with our incoming arms.” The Express are currently in the process of building out the roster for 2022 as they look to defend their VBL championship.
