2019 Express Excelling in College

With most collegiate seasons about 2/3 of the way completed, we wanted to highlight a few members of our 2019 Express that are having exceptional seasons for their respective programs.

Freshman slugger Sonny DiCharia is currently leading Samford in HR’s (12) and is also tied for the lead in RBI’s (28). DiCharia is also hitting .325 with a .451 OBP to go along with 24 Runs Scored and 3 Doubles for the Bulldogs, who are currently 25-11 overall and leading the Southern Conference.

Wabash Valley is currently the #1 NJCAA DI team in the country with their sparkling 34-1 record, and Noah Myers is a huge reason for it. Myers, who is committed to the Univ. of South Carolina next fall, is currently hitting .409 with 59 Runs Scored, 8 Doubles, 3 HR’s, and 31 RBI’s. The most impressive stat that Myers has produced this spring is in the stolen base department, where he is a perfect 55/55 and leading all of NJCAA baseball. By several scouting associations, Myers is a projected Top 10-15 round pick this MLB draft.

Judd Ward has been a fixture in LF for the Auburn Tigers, routinely throwing out runners who continually try to take an extra base…leading to 5 OF assists for Ward. He has also produced at the plate, hitting .267 with 20 Runs Scored, 6 Doubles, 2 Triples, 2 HR’s, and 19 RBI’s. He’s hitting .293 in SEC play, which is the unquestioned toughest conference in all of college baseball.

Al Womack, son of former MLB veteran Tony Womack, is producing huge numbers for Norfolk State. Despite battling an ankle injury, Womack is hitting .463 (.537 in MEAC play) with 18 Runs Scored, 8 Doubles, 1 HR, and 25 RBI’s. The Waxhaw, NC native was a Freshman All-American in 2018 and should be in line for high postseason honors this spring as well.

Former Express assistant coach Noe Ruiz is in his first season as an assistant at Eastern Oklahoma State College and has quickly developed a pipeline with the Express. Tyler Johnson, a freshman OF/1B, is currently mashing the baseball for EOSC and is hitting .362 with 35 Runs Scored, 10 Doubles, 14 HR’s, and 42 RBI’s. Originally committed to the Univ. of Arkansas before taking the JUCO route, Johnson’s 14 HR’s are currently 5th in the country in NJCAA DI.

Zach Scott, a former two-year standout at Polk State, has been a staple in the 3-hole this spring for Florida Southern. He’s launched 7 HR’s to go along with a .329 average and 32 RBI’s. Even more impressive has been his defense, as Scott has only made 3 errors in 103 total chances for a .971 fielding percentage as the everyday 3B.
