Herget Makes MLB Debut
Kevin Herget (Express '12) made his long-awaited debut for Tampa on Tuesday night, after spending nearly a decade in the minor leagues. He retired his first 2 batters - Vlad Guerrero Jr and Bo Bichette - on only 6 pitches.
Herget is an all-time great for Strasburg, leading the staff for the 2012 season. He went 3-1 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.14 WHIP while leading the league in strikeouts (77) and allowing only 36 hits in 51 innings of work. He was called up to Tampa earlier this season but didn't record an appearance prior to being recalled this week and meeting the team in Toronto.
Kevin is the 2nd Express alum to make his MLB debut, following Teddy Payne making his debut with the Chicago Cubs during the '21 MLB season. Thrilled he finally got this well-deserved opportunity...congrats Kevin!
